Little, Big, by John Crowley

Rating: 5.0 Roses published 1981, Spectra

Densely written and packed with literary allusions and subtle themes, this book isn't for everyone, but for those who can appreciate it, it's a book to treasure. The story follows several generations of a large family, the Drinkwaters, who have a mysterious connection with Faery and a high but obscure destiny to fulfill. No member of the family knows precisely where this destiny (known as The Tale) is taking them, but all are participants in that fate, some willingly and some not. No other story portrays the denizens of Faery and their tricksy ways better. If I had to pick my all-time favorite book, this would be it.
