The heart of The Fledgling is the author’s love of nature, embodied in the main character, Georgie Dorian, a little girl who is taught to fly by a Canada goose. This is actually a collection of short stories that are all somehow linked to a poem called "Lammas Night" by Mercedes Lackey.
